Dear NMRC Community,
As 2024 draws to a close, we reflect on a year of remarkable growth, camaraderie, and accomplishment. We’ve made strides both on and off the water:
Building Camaraderie
Our club came together in memorable ways this year, from the special Boys in the Boat screening at Bay Theater to member socials at Broomstack and Lake Ann Brewing. These events strengthened our connection and deepened our shared appreciation for our rowing community.
Enhancing Rowing Skills
Winter training at Sleeping Bear Bay Club kicked off with Row-Vember, offering four free erging sessions. On the water this summer, we hosted four Learn to Sweep and Scull events, helping members sharpen their technique and confidence. A dedicated weekly novice session further nurtured new rowers, thanks to our skilled coaches and boat captain, Dana Fear, who ensured every seat in the eight included a mix of new and seasoned rowers.
Expanding Our Fleet
Through generous donations from 17 club members and successful fundraising efforts, we purchased two new quads this year. Additionally, we christened The Katriel, a beautiful Vespoli double named in honor of Keith Adler, thanks to a generous gift from Carol Adler.
Strengthening Our Local Presence
NMRC members contributed over 115 volunteer hours to our community, supporting events including several Pit Spitters games, two nights at the Cedar Polka Fest, and the Sleeping Bear Marathon. Our favorite endeavor was rolling up our sleeves to paint and clean up Solon Township Park. We can’t wait to enjoy the transformation this summer. The neighbors of the park and the township appreciated our efforts as well!
Making Waves at Regattas
NMRC showed its competitive spirit at two regattas: the Grand Rapids Beer Scrimmage and the Henley on the Boardman. We’re proud to say our rowers brought home medals from both events, showcasing our growing reputation as a formidable rowing club.
Welcoming Rowers from Near and Far
This year, we expanded our reach by hosting guest rowers from across Michigan, as well as, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Georgia, California, Washington State, and even the United Kingdom. They joined us on our beautiful waters and took away an appreciation for our club.
Growing Our Home Base
We built boat racks, expanded our boatyard, and secured a two-year lease extension at Solon Township Park, ensuring our club’s continued growth and success. We look forward to getting back to Glen Lake next season as well!
Your Support Powers Our Progress
As we look ahead to 2025, we invite you to help us continue this momentum. Your generous contributions fuel our ability to maintain and grow our fleet, add critical equipment, expand training opportunities, and strengthen our community presence.
Make your year-end gift to NMRC today! To receive a 2024 tax deduction, all gifts must be postmarked or made online on or before December 31.
