March 12, 2023 Newsletter

Hello NMRC,

Thank you very much for all the positive feedback about the new membership program for the 2023 season. We are working very hard to make this upcoming season a successful one! We do need help from our members to make that happen. Don’t forget that March 18th is the last day of Early Bird Registration.

2023 Feel the Run Fundraiser

Last year we Pulled Together; now we want to Feel the Run. When rowers pull together and then move slowly up the slide, you can feel the water run under the boat. It is an exhilarating feeling which doesn’t happen all the time. It is a clear indication the boat is rowing efficiently and effectively. This is our goal for the club, and we hope every member will get to experience run in their boats this season.

Feel the Run Goal: $30,000

We have several ways to meet our fundraising goal of $30,000 this year. Last year we were able to exceed this goal with the help of every member and donor. This year we are asking every member to commit to getting $1000 in donations. It may sound like a lot of money to chase, but it is necessary to get the equipment we need to expand our rowing opportunities. Last year in our Pull Together campaign, we were able to purchase a trailer, an 8+, two 4+s, a quad, 2 launch boats, and a new motor. This year we need to add to our fleet to fulfill the needs of the club and its members. Now it’s time to Feel the Run.

Business Sponsorships:

Our new & improved business sponsorship program is outlined on our website under the Support NMRC tab at: https://www.northernmichiganrowing.club/business-sponsorship

Please reach out to any businesses that you think might be interested in sponsorships! Printable Flyer coming soon.

Corporate Rowing Program:

One way we can expand the reach of our program and attract new members is with a rowing program geared toward organizations that want to offer a benefit to their employees. This program could be pitched to large or medium-sized companies that already have enough employees to fill a boat together. Our flyer is below.

Equipment Needs Review:

Equipment needs with approximate costs (‘used’ costs are estimates based on previous purchases or what has been listed the last year on row2k) are:

  • 6 pairs of regular-sized sculling oars for Glen Lake ($750 per pair new-$4500 total, ‘used’ have been searched for but not found)

  • Quad for Glen Lake ($4-8,000 ‘used,’ possible $1000 for riggers to turn a 4+ into a 4x)

  • Rack for Quad at Glen Lake (cost hasn’t been estimated yet)

  • 1-2 doubles for Solon Twp Park (anywhere from $2-7,000 ‘used’ each)

  • Rack for doubles and singles at Solon Twp Park (cost hasn’t been estimated yet)

Solon Township Park location has additionally asked for:

  • Two dollies to help move a 4 person boat to the water

  • 2 singles ($2-4,000 each)

  • Quad with oars ($4-8,000)

  • Vespoli 8+ ($2-4,000-our Resolute has limitations for hip width of our rowers and coxes at the bow and stern of the boat)

If you are in a financial position to support NMRC with a donation today, it would help the club to acquire equipment in time for the season. We thank you for considering this.
