Northern Michigan Rowing Club May 25, 2022
Hello NMRC family!
We are making amazing progress at Solon Township Park and the social at Broomstack on Sunday was well-attended, informative and fun! Thank you to all who came! Please continue to spread the news of NMRC’s expansion on South Lake Leelanau, and a continuation of another great season at Glen Lake, and get excited to get on the water.
Time on the water really is right around the corner and there is some work to do to ensure smooth, happy launches.
1) Deadline for our Pull Together 2022 Fundraising Matching Grant
Spread the news! An anonymous donor has challenged NMRC rowers and supporters to a matching drive to raise $20,000 to help fund our equipment needs, grow NMRC, and support our two locations on Glen Lake and South Lake Leelanau. Between NOW and June 1st, 2022, ALL DONATIONS WILL BE MATCHED, up to $10,000! Please consider making a donation today by clicking the Pull Together 2022 link on our homepage!
We are still in need of funds to purchase needed equipment and supplies, and funding potential coaching and coxswains help. We have ongoing needs to fund and support NMRC and we can continue asking for and taking donations above and beyond the generous matching drive.
Sincere thank yous to everyone who has already donated and fundraised on our behalf!
2) Business Sponsorships are available. Please check out the page on our website for more information.
3) Rigging at Solon Township Park
Join us Thursday and Friday this week starting at 5:30 to help rig and prepare our 8+, 4+s and 4x for launch. (Tonight’s rigging has been canceled due to the weather) A lot of work has already been done, we even gave the quad a test row on Monday night (it was sweet!!) Even if you have never rigged a boat, we could use your muscle to get the boats into slings and promise you will learn a lot!
4) Membership in NMRC
Join NMRC via the Membership link on our homepage at NorthernMichiganRowing.club Annual membership for individuals, couples or families are discounted through June 1, so don’t wait to join!
Once you join, create an account by clicking the Login link in the upper right hand corner of our homepage. Your account gives you access to the Members Area of our website and to one more important task!
Complete the member survey located in the Members Area accessed via a link on the top of our homepage. The survey information is critical for organizing boats and launch times.
5) Row Programming
NMRC offers rowing on Glen Lake from the Glen Lake Yacht Club and on South Lake Leelanau from Solon Township Park. Programming will be determined by many factors such as number of members, staff availability, and equipment. This is currently being worked on at both locations.
Glen Lake Update: The dock is slated to be completed by June 4th. Rowing will start on June 6th.
Mon/Wed/Fri 8:30am
Sun/Mon/Thurs 6pm
*Offer 3 or 4 rowers (3/if ALL are novice - only started rowing last year)
Lake Leelanau Update: There will be a mix of team boats and open rowing seats most sessions at Lake Leelanau. Novice rowers will first need a Learn to Row and then will be assisted in getting scheduled into sessions.
Look for another email when we get the schedule loaded onto the website with instructions on how to schedule yourself for open seats.
6) Regular rowing rates:
$20 per individual row
$180 per month - unlimited rowing (3 rows per week, 16 week season=$15 per row)
$640 per season - unlimited rowing (3 rows per week, 16 week season=$13 per row)
7) Team Boat Formation At Lake Leelanau Location
Team boats can now be formed at the Solon Township Park location for experienced rowers. You may reserve one or more morning or evening boats for the month or the season.* You are responsible for filling all the seats and all rowers must have their rowing packages paid prior to their first row. Spaces for Team Boats will be limited.
Boats available are:
4x (quad), two 4+s (fours) or an 8+ (eight)
Contact Cheryl Myers at members@northernmichiganrowing.com to check availability and tentatively reserve a day and time and to provide her with your roster.
*We cannot guarantee all team boats will get their requested spot. We will try to organize it in a fair and transparent way. We are trying to get an idea of what Team boats we will have and build the schedule around them. Each team boat needs a Captain for communication with the Location Coordinators. (Susan O’Connor and Mindy Hawley at Lake Leelanau, Cam Lamphier at Glen Lake)
