April 28, 2024

Hello NMRC!

Tell your rowing-curious friends there are just three days to grab our $50 early bird discount for 2024 memberships! This opportunity ends April 30!

SCHEDULE CHANGE!

Solon Township Park clean up is rescheduled for May 5 from
9 am - 12 pm. Sign up on iCrew and bring rakes, gloves, shovels, and yard work tools that will help us beautify the park. Many hands make light work!

Huge Opportunity for Quads this 2024 Season:

If you are new to NMRC or need a refresher, we keep our membership fees dedicated to programming and overhead to make rowing as affordable as possible. All purchases for equipment must come through our fundraising efforts.

With that, we have the chance to purchase two quads for the 2024 season. It is extremely rare to find used quads in good condition. We have heard our members’ desire to row quads this season and unfortunately, the current LL quad is in rough shape. We want to upgrade this shell but we have to raise the funds to do it. They are made by Swift and together cost $14,000- a big chunk of money, we know. But having these quads will make our club and programming so much stronger- especially for beginners. We are asking for everyone to pitch in and donate and/or ask any local businesses you support to consider sponsorships.

Our business sponsorships page on our website explains what we offer with multiple levels of giving. There is a printable PDF to give to interested businesses.

We also have a donation available where you can name one of the boats for $5000.

Back up option: We are looking for someone to secure the money needed to give us time to raise these funds if we are unable to do it as quickly as needed.

Please help us fund these quads!

 YES! WE WANT TO HELP

Dry Land Training:

Don’t forget to sign up for FREE dry land training available to registered 2024 members and existing winter training members at the Sleeping Bear Bay Club in Maple City! Dry land training runs through May 11 on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm and Saturday mornings at 9:00 am. These sessions will be assisted by experienced members and function as open, unstructured events. Toggling in iCrew is necessary because we have limited rowing machines available. First toggle, first served.

NEW! Pitch in and help earn NMRC some easy money!

The Pit Spitters will pay NMRC $50 per volunteer if 6 - 10 of our members sign up for In-game and Post-game volunteer activities at three different Pit Spitter home games. Sign up on iCrew for any or all of the following evenings: June 30 (4 - 6pm), July 25 (5:30 - 9:30pm) and August 5 (5:30 - 9:30pm).

All volunteers get free parking and a free food voucher! The Post-game volunteers (the 5:30 - 9:30 slots) get tickets to watch part of the game before volunteer commitments begin. Pit Spitters have asked that a majority of volunteers in each group be over 18 years old since some tasks involve serving alcohol.

Please contact members@northernmichiganrowing.club if you are aware of any additional volunteer fundraising opportunities so our club can consider participating!

Launch Boats!

Thanks to the awesome work from the O’Connor men, we have our Lake Leelanau launch boat ready to go! They were also able to diagnose and repair the original motor we purchased two years ago. Yesterday, Glen Lake Juniors, Austin O’Connor and Collin Ostrowski, tested both engines on Lake Leelanau. NMRC will have two launches ready to use for the season, one at LL and the other for GL. We cannot thank Micheal, Austin, and Collin enough for their hard work! Also, a big thank you to neighbor Randy for always being there to assist.

Members Needed to Lead:

It takes a village to keep this member run club running smoothly. Volunteering is part of our membership commitment and part of NMRC culture. We are asking members to step up and take on a leadership role in any one of the following areas: fundraising, merchandise, organizing Learn to Rows at Lake Leelanau and/or Introductions to Sculling at Glen Lake. Please contact members@northernmichiganrowing.club if you are able to help!

Special Thanks!

Thank you to our new Board Member Dan Schillinger for retrieving our boat trailer from storage and delivering it to Lake Leelanau!

Thank you also to Stacy Jargo of Sleeping Bear Bay Club for letting us use her gym space for winter training. It was a big hit! If you’re looking for a great workout, check out www.sleepingbearbayclub.com!

Keeping the boats safe! Thank you to Janet Hethorn for making these awesome boat trailer flags- modeled below by Janet Schillinger.
