Hello NMRC!

WE NEED YOUR VOTES!!!!  Your Board has been busy seeking grants for equipment and club building.  We are thrilled to report that NMRC is a semi-finalist for a Bridge Builders Neighborhood Micro Grant through the Michigan Municipal League, which means we could receive $1,000 to hold an extra Learn to Row and Neighborhood Picnic!!  Our goal applying for this grant was to help maintain NMRC as a valued, long-term partner in Solon Township Beach Park neighborhood. It’s time for all NMRC members and all our friends to VOTE once each day from NOW until JUNE 11 to help us advance to the finalist round!

Here’s how to vote - Vote once each day now through June 11 for our “Solon Township Beach Park Neighborhood Learn to Row and Picnic” at  https://mmlfoundation.org/bridge-builders-neighborhood-voting/solon-township-beach-park-neighborhood-learn-to-row-and-picnic/

Please share this link on your social media. Encourage your family and friends to vote once a day, too!! Your votes will help our Neighborhood Learn to Row and Picnic project advance to the finalist round. Voting is open through June 11! Don’t wait! Vote once everyday for our project!!!

Three June NMRC Learn to Rows!  Our first L2R is this coming Sunday, June 4 from 7:45 am to 1:15 pm. It is at capacity! There are two more L2R’s scheduled in June on Saturday, June 17th and Sunday, June 25th. Spread the word to your friends and family and anyone you think might be rowing curious. You can register for the 17th and the 25th with this link by getting an iCrew account and toggling yourself as attending either of those events. Karen Broach is the L2R coordinator and can be emailed at karendbbss@gmail.com

L2R Volunteers Needed - Having seasoned rowers assist is key to welcoming new people to the sport! Thank you to our members who have already volunteered. Earn credit toward your NMRC volunteer obligation and make our Learn to Rows the best they can be. Please let Karen Broach know if you are available to volunteer.

NMRC is rigged and launched at Glen Lake and mostly rigged at Lake Leelanau! Many thanks to the crew who set aside last Sunday morning to get the Glen Lake location of NMRC ready to row: Tom W, Annabel M, Cam L, Karen R, Cindy O, Diane and Jeff H, Melinda and Ian H, and especially two new members who haven’t even done their L2R yet, Lori L. and Dorothy W.  It takes a village of volunteers to make this club work.

It’s Time to Row - But first, learn how and remember to TOGGLE IN to row on iCrew. Rowing at both NMRC locations will be managed through the iCrew toggle in and out process. We need every member to take advantage of their unlimited rowing! The open sessions may be tweaked from time to time depending on available coaches and rower sign ups. iCrew has the most up to date sessions that can be attended. Boats and coaches cannot go out unless we have enough members to sign up for a session.

If you are in a Team Boat you are automatically toggled in as Attending. Your teammates and other rowers are relying on you to communicate your ability to commit for every row you are Toggled in to row or to find a sub. Always communicate subs to Team Captains so iCrew can be updated.

Sessions have been selected to maximize both locations by alternating sessions at each location. The amazing turquoise water of Glen Lake shouldn’t be missed this season. With the addition of the quad at Glen Lake, our opportunities are expanding at that location. Lake Leelanau offers the experience of rowing in the big sweep boats. We have a quad and have recently moved a double and a member-lent trainer single there for additional sculling options as well.

To Toggle into Scheduled Sessions:

Within iCrew: go to your attendance plans and toggle the button to the right for each row in the next two weeks you can commit to. *Please do not click the button to toggle into all rows.

To Find Subs:

Utilize the Club Roster. Members are listed there along with their phone and email. Put members in your contacts on your phone to readily be able to message. Make sure to text rowers you’ve previously asked to sub back asap if you find someone to fill your seat. Sometimes rowers have to make plans to be able to accept a sub seat. It is a courtesy to others.

Team Boat Subs- Different teams might have different policies for subbing. Ask your Team Captain if you have questions about subbing.

Any member can form a Team Boat. Contact Mindy Hawley for more information: mindy@northernmichiganrowing.club.

iCrew ‘Paperwork’ -  If you haven’t already filled out the waivers and forms on iCrew, do so now.  Your profile also needs to be completed by filling out all starred items. Pay close attention to the two sections, Rower Settings and Emergency Contacts, at the bottom of the profile page. Unless all starred items are complete, iCrew blocks you from toggling into a row. If you need assistance with that process, contact Mindy at mindy@northernmichiganrowing.club
