Hello NMRC!
It’s MAY! Well, almost. But it IS time to get your calendar out and start reconnecting with NMRC at upcoming events and work bees. Remember the 10 hour volunteer membership commitment? Spring clean up and rigging is a great time to earn some credit towards that commitment. We need all hands on deck NOW to help launch our 2023 season!
Thank you to the crew that helped bring the big boats off the top of the highest rack to get ready for rigging next week.
*This evening, April 30th, is the last chance for a price break on memberships.
Here’s some dates and some exciting news:
1) RIGGING/PARK CLEAN UP AT SOLON TOWNSHIP BEACH PARK on Lake Leelanau, 8215 S Lake Shore Dr, Cedar - Big boat rigging will be, Sunday, May 7 from 11 am to 3pm. Getting the big boats rigged may let us get on the water ahead of schedule, weather permitting. We also need to help clean up the park! Please bring rakes and rigging tools (please tape and mark them with your name!). We’ll also need a couple tarps to collect leaves for easy pickup.
2) RIGGING AT GLEN LAKE, 6617 S. Sunset Drive, Glen Arbor- Come to the Glen Lake Yacht Club Sunday, May 28 from 8:30 to 11:30 am to help rig small boats.
4) National Learn to Row Day - Sunday, June 4, 9 am to 1 pm at Solon Twp Park, Lake Leelanau location. Attendance is FREE. Sign up is required in iCrew. We have a couple more spots available and then we’ll start a wait list. Learn the fundamentals for rowing on the ERG and experience a 4 or 8 on the water! iCrew registration link
5) Welcome to Ethan Larson, who will be joining our coaching staff this summer! Ethan is a sophomore at University of Michigan studying Economics. He has just completed his 2nd season racing the 1V eight for the U of M team and has experience in pairs, doubles, fours and singles.
6) We were able to purchase new sculling oars to be used this season at Glen Lake! Properly sized oars will make the rowing experience that much better.
Complete Forms and Waivers on iCrew - Everyone, including Learn to row participants must complete the forms located in iCrew under Your Home in the Documents tab BEFORE volunteering (this includes rigging days) or rowing. Take a moment to do this now if you haven’t already. There are only 5 documents required and takes about 15 minutes to read through everything and sign electronically.
