Hello Northern Michigan Rowing Community!

Be sure to sign up on iCrew for one of our Open Row opportunities at both Glen Lake and Solon Township this week. It is a great way for you to explore both NMRC locations if perhaps you have become a little too comfortable at one site. We would love to fill more seats in more boats at both locations! Here’s a quick list of Open Rows this week:

Glen Lake News:

Due to the popularity of the Glen Lake Skills and Drills class, we have combined Monday’s classes into one 7:15 am - 8:45 am Skills and Drills class for scullers of all levels.

Please check iCrew frequently to keep up to date on our sculling class schedule. Youth programs at the yacht club ended this week, creating more flexibility. But, our coaches also have outside commitments that will limit availability. Please check back on iCrew often!

Solon Township News:

Thank you to all who attended our Community Potluck and Boat Dedication last Sunday! We met more neighbors and were so pleased that Jack Keyes widow, Winnie, could join us for the dedication of the 8 in his name. All present were moved by the ceremony officiated by Susan O’Connor while glasses of champagne were tossed in the four directions, as tradition dictates. Joe Carter made a wonderful video to celebrate Jack Keyes and our summer rowing out of Solon Twp Park. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA3XIY_iZxk

Learn to Rows: Thank you to the volunteers, coxswains and coaches who helped put on the August 6th L2R. We don’t have another scheduled but if you are still interested in learning how to row this fall, please let Karen at kdbroach@yahoo.com know and we might be able to add one in the future if there is enough interest.

Safety Notice: There is a neighbor that isn’t completely happy with our presence but other than a negative review and some emails, he hasn’t escalated. With that being said, if you ever have a 40-something male approach you, please do not engage with him. Do not hesitate to call the police if you do not feel safe.

We hope to see everyone on the water!

Grab your NMRC gear!  Anything you order on the NMRC website will be delivered right to your rowing site. https://www.northernmichiganrowing.club/shop
